Excellence in Caring

Evolving from a 32-bed to a 160-bed, long-term care and rehabilitation facility since its founding in 1984, Valley Health Services is a major health care provider and vital community asset. The privately owned, not-for-profit organization is located in Herkimer, New York and provides care to a largely rural population.

A comfortable, healthy environment with qualified staff who place an equal emphasis on mind, body and spirit defines the care at Valley Health Services.

Skilled nursing, long-term level of care allows Valley Health Services' staff to care for the most complex health care cases. Our clinically skilled staff offers intravenous therapy and specialized wound and skin therapies.

Outpatient rehabilitation assists those living at home and recovering from an injury, orthopedic surgery or debilitating condition. An individualized treatment plan is designed to restore independence or the maximum level of function in the shortest possible time. Sports injury rehabilitation, hand therapy and wound management are additional specialties addressed by our staff who provide:

Physical Therapy
Occupational Therapy
Speech Therapy

Cardiac rehabilitation assists patients on an outpatient basis to recover from heart attacks, heart surgery, angioplasty and heart disease. Staff works with patients to achieve the highest level of physical function.

Adult Day Care (medical model) offers comprehensive health care and social services for individuals who need care, but do not require 24-hour inpatient care. The program is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Our staff, under the direction of a registered nurse, monitors the medical conditions of the registrants and supervises the individualized care which includes bathing and meals as well as a host of recreational and social activities. Our adult day participants are able to take advantage of rehabilitation services in physical, occupational and speech therapies to maintain their living independence. Transportation is available.

The Palliative Care Center provides support and services to patients and families dealing with a serious illness. The Center serves individuals managing their condition at home as well as individuals in need of inpatient care. Our case management style allows the patient and our case manager to work on a one-on-one basis to determine the level and type of needed care. The case manager then assists the patient and family in securing the necessary care from a variety of community agencies specializing in caring for those with a serious illness. Valley Health Services offers inpatient palliative care for patients who need assistance with personal care, medications and pain and symptom management. Streamlining and coordinating the care, whether the patient's choice is to remain at home or to seek inpatient care, is goal of the Palliative Care Center's staff.
