O'connor Hospital AwardedAccreditation From Joint Commission

Delhi - O'Connor Hospital has earned a Gold Seal of ApprovalT from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JACHO). This prestigious achievement means that Delaware County residents can continue to look confidently to O'Connor Hospital to provide safe, high-quality healthcare.

"O'Connor Hospital's ongoing compliance with Joint Commission standards, affirmed by this full accreditation, demonstrates to our patients and their families our commitment to safety and quality care," said Dan Ayres, O'Connor Hospital Administrator and CEO. "We work hard to provide our community with the highest level of care and this helps validate the outstanding efforts of our staff."

The recent independent audit by JCAHO, the nation's oldest and largest health care accrediting body, included a thorough review of hospital policies and procedures. An examiner also interviewed staff and patients, and observed the hospitals many programs in operation. This process provides a true validation of the quality of care provided, demonstrating O'Connor's commitment to the goal of exceeding rigorous national standards for quality of care.

"Above all, the national standards are intended to stimulate continuous, systematic and organization-wide improvement in an organization's performance and the outcomes of care," says Darlene Christiansen, executive director, Hospital Accreditation Program, Joint Commission. "The community should be proud that O'Connor Hospital is focusing on the most challenging goal -- to continuously raise quality and safety to higher levels."

According to JCAHO, the accreditation process is voluntary. Standards address quality and safety of patient care, including such areas as infection control, patient rights, performance improvement, human resources and other areas representing more than 500 hospital accreditation standards. Founded in 1951, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations supports performance improvement in health care organizations such as area hospitals, laboratory and ambulatory care services, and office-based surgery centers. Accreditation by JCAHO is considered the Gold Standard in health care.
